And Staff Sergeant Victor Martin's dedication to the service of his country took precedence in this life. He served in the BDF for 25 years and 10 months and rose through the ranks. The Chief of Staff at Price Barracks, where he was based, described him as an exceptional soldier who served as a great role model and mentor to the others.
Lt. Col. Anthony VELASQUEZ, Chief of Staff, Price Barracks
"We were very shocked, Victor Martin was a very well liked and loved soldier so the entire force has felt his passing."
"Up to the time of this death, he was working with the special operation task force, he was a special force operator basically. He was a physical training instructor, and he was a mentor to many soldiers here in the BDF."

"He was a model soldier if there ever was one, Martin was a model soldier. He excelled in everything he did, and in everything he did, he did passionately, and his first and only and probably first love is the Belize Defense Force, his first wife. He was always dedicated to duty."
"Whenever he came around, everyone was apprehensive because he would demand the utmost from everyone physically wise. He was also a known athlete within Belize who was exposed internally for track and field and like everything else he did, it was with dedication and discipline, and he represented Belize regionally and internationally and the last competition he represented Belize in was the Bakers to Vegas marathon and he was the team captain/coach."
"The force squadron will see anyone who need counselling to deal with the passing of our dear Mr Martin and right now the force is in contact with the family to prepare the funeral arrangements and to offer any other services necessary that the family's mother or brother would need in this time of bereavement."
Martin will be buried with full military honors.
