A fire erupted on Antelope Street Extension this morning, destroying a house and everything in it. The couple who was living there is now forced to start over from scratch. Courtney Menzies visited the remnants of the home where the Myles family is asking for the public's assistance. Here is that story.
A couple is picking up the pieces after a fire destroyed their home on Antelope Street Extension. It was around 2 this morning when Dorva Myles and her husband, Fitzroy Myles, saw a strange glow coming from somewhere in the house.
Dorva Myles, Victim of House Fire
"When I was alerted when my husband said something was on, but we only left one light on in the kitchen so when I notice, I saw a different glare than the light so I jump up. When I get up I come out to see where the glare is coming, I notice in the corner where his weedwhacker is, fire is there so I tell him, your machine. So he jumped up and grab the machine and fire was already on it. And he slam it down so I said better you hurry throw it outside so the part that hold the gas come out so I hurry grab that and pitch it outside and get back in and try get some water. He run in the bathroom and said the bucket had water but it was empty."
They tried to save some items, but were only able to escape with their cellphones and the clothes they were wearing. They eventually called the fire station, but by the time help came, it was too late.

"He swing back for the TV but the smoke was already strong in there so he ran out so he said when he reached by the door, he said the gas tank, so I told him to hurry try pull it, maybe he could hurry haul t off. But he say no, he said lets go out so I already grabbed the two phone because I said if anything I could make a call to the firetruck. So I went to the neighbor right around the corner and they didn't answer so I knocked on the other neighbor door and she answer me, and I told her the house is on fire and I asked her what to call because I was getting confused what to call but we were calling 911 but it seemed that it wasn't 911. The neighbor over there came out and said we done call the fire truck and I said that's good but we were there a while and the truck took long so she call again but it was already close but then the house was almost finished burned when the truck came."
And now that they must start over, they're asking the public for any kind of help.

"So far we run out with just the two phone and clothes on our back. Get confused, never decided to grab anything, so any assistance good, anything good."
Fitzroy Myles received minor burns to his hand after grabbing the weedwhacker, but no other injuries were reported apart from that.
