The UK Government is getting ready to make a donation of 9 million COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, a portion of which is going to the COVAX Facility.
The vaccine being donated is the University of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, and a good amount are coming to Belize.
The British High Commission in Belmopan reports the vaccines are expected to start leaving the UK this week. Belize, Indonesia, Jamaica, and Kenya will be among the first countries to receive doses.
In a press release of their own, the Government of Belize expressed gratitude today for the vaccines.
GOB says, quote, "Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay and the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belize worked with representatives of the UK government…to secure the necessary doses of the…vaccine …. (which) will be utilized as a part of Belize's ongoing national vaccination rollout." End quote.
