Tonight, one of the biggest global icons of the music world is visiting Belize. Rapper, producer and fashion designer, Kanye West arrived at the PGIA on a private jet this afternoon along with James Prince, the promoter and record label owner who also owns Prince Caye - a small island off Ambergris Caye.
Prince - who is known as "J. Prince" is a well connected music business insider and was said to have been the one who recently forged the truce between West and his one time rival Drake - which ended up with the pair hosting a benefit concert.
But, Prince is also very invested in Belize - and came to the defence of its reputation as a tourist destination recently when Briney Spears complained about her accommodations at Gladden Caye.
That's why the Director and the Minister of Tourism were at the airport today to welcome West and give Prince a gift as a personal "thank-you."
After that, the pair headed to Prince Island - for what West declared as a pleasure oriented two day stay - which would bring him to New Year's Eve in Belize.
And so, how does a mega star like Kanye west end up in Belize at the end of a very high profile, chart-topping year for him? Well, we've already told you both his friendship with J Prince. But, we should also note that Steven Victor - the UMG music executive who Shyne Barrow brought to Belize in November to sign a distribution deal - is the Chief Operating Officer of West's G.O.O.D. Music Label.
