But even with the pending threat of Omicron, the government is determined to reopen schools for hybrid learning on January 10th. And even Dr Cuellar, who, as you may recall, has suffered through his own bout with COVID, agrees that children need to get back into the classrooms - albeit in a measured and safe way. And the vaccines will help - since he also says that Pfizer is supposed to be approved for 5-11 year olds in Belize sooner rather than later.
Dr. Fernando Cuellar, Internist
"Honesty, I think its time for us to open up slowly, sensibly and safely. We do in stages, we perhaps do it in a hybrid form, we divide the classes, but we have to start to open up. We cannot have our children missing yet another year. They've missed 2 years already, so it time for us to open us and just take care of ourselves better and hopefully, we can go to, and this is controversial, but we can go to mandating vaccines, so that our herd immunity can increase."

"Do you thing that Belize allows 11-year-old to get the Pfizer, I believe its already approved by the CDC?"
Dr. Fernando Cuellar, Internist
"That will come onstream in the next few weeks. We usually follow the science that is available to us from the rest of the world."
