And in other news, yesterday, Emancipation Day was observed for the second time in Belize's history. After being elected, the government implemented the holiday to mark the end of slavery and the emancipation of the enslaved people.
And in his speech, the Minister of Culture, Francis Fonseca, noted the effects that Belizeans - especially the black population - still face today as a result of those years of enslavement. He also spoke about what needs to be done to balance out the scales of inequity.
