AND FINALLY TONIGHT......
The family of the late Carlos Diaz, former Lake Independence Area Representative, laid him to rest this morning with an official funeral at St Martin's Church. Fort George Area representative Henry Charles Usher spoke at his funeral and shared a few words about the kind of man Diaz was to his people and constituency.
Hon. Henry Charles Usher, Fort George Area Rep.

"As a young man growing up in this party, I sat in aww of giants, men and women who defined for me what it meant to serve the people and build the nation. For me, Carlos Diaz was a stern looking fellow, an old rugged cross, but one that so many of us would cling to and cherish."
"On behalf of the Prime Minister Hon. John Briceno and the government and people of Belize, especially his beloved residents of Lake Independence I offer my condolences as we stand in solidarity with the family, friends and contemporaries of Carlos Diaz. His neighbours will certainly remember him fondly as will we in the People United Party. We have lost a soldier of the revolution, man who understood the value of service to others and who loved Belize. Carlos represented the people of this community as neighbour, as leader, as minister of government and a local business man. For sure here in Lake I, Carlos and by extension his family, especially his late wife left an indelible mark on the hearts of those her served."
Diaz passed away at the age of 75 on August 3rd, he served as the former Minister of Energy and communications from 1989 to 1993.
