Abel Casteneda, Chief Tourism Officer, Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations

"Belize currently holds since January of this year the presidency for the Mundo Maya organization and so this is one of the first few events that we will be doing this calendar year under our presidency and we are hosting a week long series of activities along with our Mundo Maya member states includes Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador."
"So right now today and tomorrow we actually have a strategic planning workshop with the mundo Maya organization with all countries coming together really to take stock of where we are as a region. The Mundo Maya organization was established to promote the Maya Heritage in our tourism destinations and within our countries but over the years there's been different sort of evolving matters having to do with transportation immigration and overall tourism product development. So today and tomorrow we are working together. Sitting down putting our heads to the ground to try to determine the best strategic way forward for the MUndo Maya Organization."
Abel says that they will also be partnering with the Natural Institute for Culture and History under their Institute of Archaeology to host the Belize Archaeology Symposium to be held in San Ignacio next week.
