Tomorrow, Tenth September is a public and bank holiday, to, of course, celebrate 1798's so-called Battle of St George's Caye. Indeed, the event has lost its luster and pre-eminence as the premier September event. But for the UDP - which has always clung to the tenth as a cornerstone - they want the crowds to come out tomorrow to participate in the traditional citizen's parade. Here's what their Queen Square rep said yesterday:

Godwin Haylock, Queen's Square Rep

"On a more patriotic note, we close by inviting all Belize's at home and abroad to come and be part of the September 10th St George's Caye Celebrations, something where the government of today has tried its best to kill. But people must understand: that is our heritage, that is the focal point of our history whereby the Spanish were defeated."
