Construction commenced last year in January and today was the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Bullet Tree Falls Community Centre. The area representative for Cayo North says that the centre functions as an event and activity hub for residents, in addition to a hurricane shelter. Here are the highlights from the event today.
Michel Chebat, Area Representative for Cayo North
"We have renovated the community center which has been here for more than 30 years as you know this is a center for community life people use it for weddings for quince anos for all kinds of functions they use for village meetings and all kinds of activities surround this center and more importantly it is also used as a hurricane center and so this really is the center of life here in bullet tree and we are happy that we were able to get in here and renovate it completely. Unfortunately over time it became rat bat infested and it had really become dilapidated and we could not allow that to continue and so with the help of the hon Anthony Mahler we got together and we were able to do this renovation as you can see here. And so it was almost fully redone it was completely gutted out, new roof, new lights, new fans new ceilings new floors so really a complete renovation of the building."
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"It is not all about the big big projects when you invest in your communities like we did in Belize City in Berger field and on Mahogny street and all those things you feel an upliftment. The other day I was in El Salvador I have not been in El Salvador for many many years but the first few times I went to El Salvador everybody said don't go here don't do this don't do that and now this time when I went I could feel the energy from the people I could see the smiles on the faces and so security is important to ensure that our people feel free to go out and enjoy these things that they once did and so this is just the start for the Bullet tree community and for some of the projects that we have for the entire Cayo District we will continue to work tirelessly with everybody involved we will continue to consult to ensure we put the monies in the right places at the right time and for all people."
