The already congested entrance into Belize City was made more so this morning when all emergency forces were activated to respond to a call of fire from the BEL headquarters at mile 2 ½ on the Northern Highway. But it was only a test, and while this was no relief to the traffic flow, it did serve to again continue to sharpen the skills of firemen and other authorities.
Michael Middleton, Fire Department
"It is part of our monthly fire simulation exercise. It also forms a part of BEL Safety week. Training is very fundamental for our people. The more we train we feel the better we perform in a real situation. We agree that it might be a inconvenience to people but in the longer run it is those same people that will benefit from it."
This type of simulation is held once a month.
