6,111 students across the country today sat for part one of the primary school selection examination. The test was in English paper one and English paper two as well as science. By two this afternoon the students were all done, and we caught up with a few of them from Wesley and St. Ignatius Schools as they left the examination centers. The gave us their first impressions on the exam that will decide their future.
Student #1: It felt weird.
Alfonso Noble: Why was it weird? Was it a difficult test?
Student #1: Yes.
AN: What portion was difficult?
Student #1: The language was kind of hard.
Student #2: It was just like a normal exam you take in class.
Student #3: You calm down yourself when you are in the PSE room. You just go there and you just like sit down and calm down yourself and when they give you the exam paper you just take it like when you do practice at school.
AN: You think you did well?
Student #3: Yes I think I did well.
AN: Why do you say that?
Student #3: Because I studied hard and practiced at school and I did well.
AN: What portion of the exam was the most difficult for you or the most easy for you?
Student #3: The most easiest one is language and science. We did not take the math yet.
AN: You think you'll pass?
Student #4: I think so yes.
AN: What portion of the exam was the hardest and what was the easiest?
Student #4: Well the letter we wrote was kind of hard but the science and the English was easy.
AN: What was it like? Easy? Difficult?
Student #5: It was kind of hard, kind of easy.
AN: Which portion of the exam was difficult?
Student #5: The one that was hard was the water thing, the evaporation of water.
Student #6: I wasn't really nervous but then you know I tried to just be focused and thing.
AN: How do you think you did?
Student #6: Good, like in the '60s or '70s.
AN: What portion was the hardest?
Student #6_: English one.
Student #7: It was challenging and so but after we really get to understand it and read the stuff and thanks to our teachers Mr. Charles and Mr. Armstrong, they really put their effort in teaching us and most of the stuff which they taught us just came back in the exam again and it was really okay.
The second part of the PSE exam will be held on May 8 when students will sit the Math 1 and 11 papers as well as social studies.
