Public schools across the city had a half day today as their teachers had a union meeting in the afternoon. Earlier on we showed you some of that meeting as the Belize National Teacher's Union prepares to join the BMDU in their protest march on Saturday. But protest is not all that the teacher's union does. Today the membership of the Belize City branch met at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall where the issue of domestic violence and the impact on children was discussed. President Anthony Fuentes explains.
Anthony Fuentes, BNTU President
"Through this forum we will be able to offer strategies for teachers in order for them to learn how to help children to cope with crime and violence and abuse in our country. The BNTU believes that only through education will we be able to assist our teachers to help those children who have been abused and even teachers themselves sometimes who have been abused by their spouses will need to know how to cope with that situation."
The teachers will have an anti-violence parade on Friday.
