Today 6,579 students took the most important test of their young lives. It’s the primary school examination which will determine much about their future, including their choice and possibilities for high school. Standard 6 students across the country sat the English papers this morning and the science paper this afternoon. The exam concluded at 1:45 and 7NEWS was at the EP Yorke testing center where students entered nervous and left relieved.
Keith SwiftReporting,
At 1:45 this afternoon students filed out of PSE centers showing surprising energy after completing four hours of testing – which is part one of the exam.
Student #1: I was kind scared.
Student #2: Nervous.
Student #3: Frightened, terrible.
KS: How did you feel walking into that exam room?
Student #4: Felt scared sir.
Student #5: I was a bit nervous about the exam. I knew it was going to be going to be hard.
KS: How does it feel after completing the exam?
Student #1: Relief.
Student #2: Feels like a elephant got off my back.
And despite being nervous and frightened - most of the these students say the exam was actually easier than what they expected.
Student #1: It was sort of hard but it as easy.
Student #2: The exam was sort of challenging at first but then after a while you get used to it.
Student #6: It was kind of hard the science but the language was a bit hard, there was more comprehension in the language. The science was…science. I didn’t exactly study much because I listened in class and stuff…to me it is just another test.
Student #7: It was challenging a little bit but not as hard as I expected…to be honest the writing of the story was hard.
Student #8: It was challenging…I think it was hard…the writing because I really don’t like writing too much.
Student #9: It was kind of good right but it was hard in a different way. Like for the letter writing it was a little hard.
Student #10: It was kind of easy when we reached to the science. It was fun. It wasn’t difficult. Only the English. I relaxed my mind. Our teacher told us just to relax the whole weekend. I only studied and then on Monday I relaxed my mind.
Student #11: I took it like an ordinary exam, like first term exam or stuff like that.
KS: Did you get any sleep last night?
Student #11: Hardly…I was worrying.
Student #12: It wasn’t as difficult as I expected. The language component was not very hard and the science was difficult, a little.
KS: Did you feel you were adequately prepared when you walked into that room?
Student #12: Well actually I thought that I was ready for the exam and I fell like I did well.
KS: Are you ready for the math section?
Student #12: Yes sir.
Student #13: I know I am going to have to study much harder because math is a bit more difficult.
The students will sit the math and social studies papers on Monday May 5th.
