One of out of every nine women is at risk for breast cancer. And that is why to commemorate World Women’s Day, Scotia Bank made a donation to the Belize Cancer Society. It is for five thousand Canadian dollars which is BZ$10,084. Scotia Bank’s Josie Andrews presented the check to the Cancer Society’s President Dr. Alba Mendez Sosa this afternoon and we were there.

“We have decided this year to make a significant donation to an organization that is very much about providing awareness when it comes to breast cancer and women. So this year what we did is we approached the Belize Cancer Society and we are very proud to give them a donation of just slightly over $10,000 Belize dollars.”

“This money was given for breast cancer awareness and October is the international month of cancer. We plan to use this money to deliver educational programs for all women in the country. We plan some workshops for health providers including nurses, doctors – to try to give a little more education in the reading of the mammograms, breast self examination, and all of these parameters that help us to establish a good program in breast cancer control.”

Cancer awareness month is October.
