On Friday we told you about Francis Fonseca’s bold statement distancing himself from any knowledge or approval of, or involvement with the $20 million secretly diverted from the Venezuelan grant. Fonseca did that in his bid for pup leadership where a clean image is the only antidote to a sordid episode. And on Love fM’s Morning Show today, fellow aspirant for PUP leader Mark Espat made it clear that he has kept a distance not only from the Venezuela deal, but from the Universal transaction. He said the Venezuelan diversion stinks.
Mark Espat,
“I find the revelation that $20 million gifted to the government and people of Belize for housing, monies that could have built 1,000 new homes, monies that could have given thousands of people relief for housing repairs and housing grants, I find the secret diversion of those funds to be immoral, to be wrong – really it stinks to speak frankly. I do not think that that decision should have been made. It is indeed reprehensible that it would have been made. Those who are responsible have to answer for themselves. I believe as a country of laws and no man or woman is above the law and so those who are responsible will have to answer for themselves.”
Tomorrow, Espat, Briceno and Fonseca are expected to be present at a meeting of the PUP’s National Party Council.
