Earlier we told you about the First Caribbean Bank being taken to court for suspicious transactions, but there’s nothing suspicious about a three week summer sports camp organized by the bank for needy kids. Today those kids made that first step towards sharpening their skills on the court and their overall discipline.

Cojac Smith, First Caribbean Bank
“We at First Caribbean are trying to reach out to at risk kids between the ages of 13 to 16. Between the summer most of the kids are out doing nothing or have nothing to do so we are trying to give them something constructive to do during the summer. Each child that registers for the camp registers with $20 which they will open a savings account at First Caribbean with. So every child that is participating in the camp will have a savings account at the end of the camp.”

Brads Gladden, Basketball Association
“I cannot over emphasize how important it is. I think it is something that our society has neglected for quite some time and I think it is past time that we really pay some good attention to what can happen and the impact that basketball can have on these kids lives. If you look up there the majority of these kids are in first form at high school and that’s where we are having a lot of problems with kids dropping out and getting into gangs and a lot of different activities that are none productive for our community so we are hoping that somehow some of these kids are going to do exactly what Coach Seroki is talking about right now and it is an opportunity to get them a college education through basketball and impact our community positively with basketball.”

The children will be broken up into teams that at the end of their three weeks will compete in a tournament. The basketball camp is also being sponsored by Advance Advertising that supplied the boys and girls with the jersey they wear at camp. A total of one hundred and twenty kids are being targeted so there is still more space for your child to attend. Just get in contact with First Caribbean International Bank for more details.
