The theme for the September celebrations is - Belizeans learning our past, impacting our present, embracing our future. And improvising upon that theme, students at IT-VET in Belize City put their patriotism to the test with class projects celebrating Belize at 27. The projects were judged this morning and when it was over – two classes from the Food and Beverage Department won. They gave us a tour of their classrooms.

“We did the future, that was to take all the different fruits and natural beverages in Belize and we made it into different things like for instance the blackberry, we know that grows wild everywhere. We took it and we made blackberry muffins. We used the coconut and we made coconut buns. We used the different fruits, we made like fruit baskets, fruit

salads. We had natural fruit juices, everything was from Belize’s fruits, all the natural fruits that Belize grows.”
Rueben Cano, Student
“It was hard work preparing those dishes because we were going with

the theme and everybody, the whole class did what they had to do but it was quite a challenge to get the dish done the way the teacher wanted. Everything came from our mind and from nature.”
Mark Chiac, Student
“Belize has a lot to offer and there’s a lot of people that don’t know about it so for us doing this, we got more information in order for us to broaden our mind of what we have.”
Krystal Castillo, Student
“Everything that we had done was team work of course and everything is patriotic, the Belizean flag, the blast from the past, all the old time things that we used, the national symbols – a lot of things. First of all I learnt a lot about the national symbols. I didn’t know much about that and all the old things that we had from the past, I learnt a lot about that.”
