Thirty two kids from across the city are now certified swimmers. It's an initiative that was born out of collaboration between the Police Department and the Belize Coast Guard to teach kids who never took swimming classes how to take care of themselves in the water. It's a life saving skill, and it could open up to money making opportunities down the road for example in the tourism industry.
And, above all else, as the OC for Eastern Division, pointed out, it's a way for kids from different neighborhoods to get along.
And ACP Gillett is hoping that they can continue this program in the future.
