The Ministry of Education in Partnership with UNICEF is taking a new approach towards reimagining education in Belize, through social and emotional learning in the early Grades. Together they launched the "Think Equal" Programme, with an objective to initiate positive life outcomes for children ages 3-6. The program seeks to implement learning strategies to improve their emotional intelligence and mental health. Minister of Education Francis Fonseca shared more with us at the launch.
The program's approach was not only designed to teach small children about emotional and mental health awareness, but it also includes educational sessions surrounding empathy, equality and inclusiveness of children with special needs and disabilities.
Think Equal is currently active in 22 countries and will commence its first phase of the programme in Belize in September More than 100 early childhood educators have been trained under the programme.
