The Corozal Freezone may be off limits to Belizeans, but if you ask them, they'll tell you the creative ways they've managed to get in. And for drivers of government vehicles, they've even taken to removing the blue license plates off their vehicles to enter the Freezone.

This is according to the head of Government's Assets and Utilities Management Unit Ashton Longsworth. A stern memo from him states this activity has been brought to the attention of the Freezone Management, Customs and Immigration Department. It adds that the border authorization issued by his unit does not grant authority for government-owned vehicles to enter the Freezone, and that they may only do so with the proper permissions from the Ministry of Finance, and his unit.

The memo ends by saying, quote, "If caught in this act or without proper authorization, the Government-owned vehicle will be impounded. We call on all Heads of Departments to ensure that proper authorization is obtained before proceeding beyond the immigration barrier of all border points." End quote.
