Three weeks ago, a portion of the third floor of San Pedro High School collapsed, leaving the inside of that portion of the building in rubble. While on the outside it looks fine, the structural integrity had apparently been degrading, and one resident said that just days before, he was inside the building and felt it shaking.
Fortunately, the collapse happened during summer vacation, when the children were not in classes. But with school opening in a few weeks, where will they go?
That's what we tried to ask the principal of the school, Emil Vasquez today. He told us that the Ministry of Infrastructure would be sending engineers to inspect the damage. When we tried to inquire further about the repairs and the state of the building, Vasquez promptly hung up the phone.
We will be following up on this story.
