On July 9th, the life of 40-year-old Glenda Estrada changed forever when she was hit while crossing the street in front of New Moon Grocery Store in Ladyville. You've already heard her husband say that she survived, and that the baby she was 9 months pregnant with at the time also made it.
But now, a month later, Estrada is still paralyzed on the right side of her body, unable to talk or eat. Her husband, Nelson Pech, is taking care of their newborn, along with their other two children, but as the bills pile up, he's finding it hard to manage everything financially.
And he told us today that the driver of the vehicle that hit Estrada isn't even taking responsibility. He, as well as an eyewitness who's been helping the family, came by our studios today to ask the public for help.
Nelson Pech, Husband of Accident Victim

"My son right now, he's doing well, he's one month and thanks to some people, we are getting some help with pampers and milk and thing. But my wife still, going for long, she needs a lot of therapy because just half of her body is responding."
"She can't move one hand, and the foot, and she can't talk."
"She needs lots of rest and therapy and they took her to the Guatemala hospital so they… because she still can't talk, she can't eat, there something with her stomach"
"t's a shock for me because I didn't expect that. The bills in the hospital are high and I haven't been working for almost the same time my wife got knocked and we haven't gotten assistance or nothing from the person who did it."
Reporter:
"When was the last time you spoke to the person?
Nelson Pech, Husband of Accident Victim
"Well, I think one time I spoke to her, she rejected that, [she said] that I am confusing her, she's not that person, so I didn't bother again."
"Until right now, police haven't done anything, they haven't done charges, nothing, they have reached out to me to say we got some information, nothing."
"I already posted something on Facebook, my account and anything, I appreciate."
Reporter:
"Both for your wife's medical bills and for your children, right?"
Nelson Pech, Husband of Accident Victim
"Yes, like I said, any deposit will be in that case for my wife, because she still need a lot of therapy and she's like a next baby to me."
Voice of: Eyewitness
"I didn't see when she was hit but I came at the same time she was already hit, she was on the street, nobody was rendering aid to her, the police came on the scene, they said to leave her there. But knowing the person that I am, I couldn't leave her there because she was a person I see on a regular basis going to the store with her next two kids, so I told the police officers, we can't leave her there, at least if we can save one life, the baby, maybe we can't save hers, maybe we can save the baby's life. So I rendered aid and since then I have been with Mr Nelson and his wife and the baby. Today I'm here asking, pleading to the public to see, in any which way, that they can help the family, because right now the hospital bill is at $19,000 and well the baby is without a mom."
