A collaboration between the Ministries of Education and Home Affairs and the US Embassy will aim to keep primary school children out of the hands of gang members. Many times teenagers turn to gangs and drop out of school, and so with the PEACE program, officers will be visiting their classrooms with handbooks to teach them discipline and build the trust between cops and kids. Today at the launching ceremony, we learned more about the program.
The 30 officers who are a part of the program also received a donation of motorcycles.
Performative Piece In Memory Of Anisha Young
In light of 16 days of activism against gender based violence, Belizean Artist Briheda Haylock decided she would curate a performative piece to pay tribute to 23 year old Anisha Young, the young woman who went missing five years ago after leaving her Christmas staff party. Young is said to have been a victim of gender based violence before she went missing, and up to today's date the family still has not received any closure from her case. Haylock was on sunup this morning along with Anisha's relative to talk more about the performance which will be put on, on Albert street on Thursday. A performance she has named "Six Feet Down The Aisle"
The Dance takes place tomorrow at 6:30 pm on Albert Street.
