And finally tonight, at the one year anniversary of his passing, the family of Canon Leroy Flowers is honoring his legacy by launching a scholarship program for secondary school. IT's open to children at his parish school of Saint Mary's and a family representative explained that the Canon's most important mission was education:

Shannon Solis, Member of CFES
"And for all the years that he served at St Mary's 32 years I think, and Saint Francis Anglican in Burrell Boom, he pushed for educational scholarships for students. So we had students at primary, secondary, and even at tertiary who received assistance for school at all these levels. The funding came from partners in the states, and so knowing that, that was his passion, one of his passions the family is trying to honor his life and his dedication to community service via an education scholarship."

Reporter
"How do you qualify for this scholarship?"

Shannon Solis, Member of CFES
"At this point you must be a graduate of saint Marys primary school you would have had to graduate for the last year or two and you are currently in high-school, and so you apply there are application forms at saint Mary's primary school. You can apply you need to show financial need, and there a few other things that application will tell you that they would want you to provide for them, but that's about it."

At this point the scholarship is for secondary school and the hope is that eventually there will be scholarships for tertiary students. Eligible students will have to maintain a minimum 2.5 gpa and then it will automatically be renewed.
