And moving from the weather to social issues...

Two weeks ago, you heard from Isani Staine whose son, 5 year old Kwesi, was left to wander the streets in Pound Yard area after he missed the stop at his school two miles away. The bus service is provided by the Ministry of Education and parents were directed not to ride with their kids, to ensure there is enough space for the students.

Today we asked the Minister of Education about the incident, and he explained that they reiterated to their contractors that they're responsible for all the children on the bus.

Oscar Requena, Ministry of Education
"First of all I want to say that I apologize to the parents that were affected. Certainly this should not have happened. We have moved to address this situation and I want to say that there is a responsibility on the part of our contractors to ensure that these children are taken care of and they are taken to school safely. The matter of whether parents can ride on the bus is a matter that by way of policy because we want to make sure that the students are safe, there is enough space for them and that can become an issue if you allow parents to be riding because you may not have space but it's a matter that we are reviewing a certainly we are addressing to ensure that there is no longer a reoccurrence of this situation."

"We have reiterated to our contractors that they have an obligation to ensure that those children are taken to school safely."
