A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday in Trio Village, Toledo District, for a school classroom construction project. The building will also double as a hurricane shelter. Here's what the ceremony looked like today.

Osmond Martinez, Minister of State, Ministry of Economic Transformation

"As we break ground on a transformative project and I do not use this word lightly, when we build schools, we do more than develop infrastructure, we are actively creating environments where curiosity is encouraged, where confidence is developed and where young minds can imagine possibilities beyond what they see today, a child who enters a safe modern classroom is more likely to engage, learn and to dream bigger. A teacher with adequate facilities is better equipped to inspire and nurture potential. A community with strong educational infrastructure becomes better positioned to grow and thrive."

Dian Maheia, Chief Executive Officer MOECTS
"What is going to be constructed here behind us is a four classroom building, it is going to be able to hold like 140 students, right now all of you and your preschool is almost 400 students. That building is also a picture of the future it is a picture of hurricane safety, because it is going to be built so that it can be a hurricane shelter, it is a picture of inclusion and accessibility. Because it is going to be built so that anyone can access whether you are in a wheel chair or not you have a right to get to school. You have a right to be able to use the bathroom when you are at school. That building is going to be a picture pf high quality teaching and learning spaces. It is going to be an investment of 2 million dollars."

"The thing is guys this in an investment in more than a building this is an investment in your community, it is an investment in you, all of you."

The project is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank and GOB.
