Activists from the Belize Environmental Law and Policy Office say that BEL's proposed Vaca Dam poses safety and health hazards to residents of the Cayo District. And yesterday the Chief Justice found that they have enough to qualify for a judicial review hearing.
On Wednesday Candy Gonzalez, the Vice President, appeared in the Supreme Court to ask for an injunction and judicial review on the construction of the Vaca Dam.
Yesterday after hearing arguments from attorneys for the Chief Environmental Officer, the Director of Health Services, the National Emergency Response Organization and the National Meteorology Service, Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh granted BELPO leave to file for judicial review. He however denied them the request for an injunction against the construction of Vaca.
