And while there is a project to renew the disastrously dilapidated city, the old capital’s only bright spot – the freshly paved Albert Street was cut open today! Seems a BWSL main sprung a leak and the only way to fix it was to go old school: cut open the street, trench down, fix it and then just cover it back up with sand and stones, not hot mix. Now, this comes after months of delays, waiting for all the utilities to renew all their fittings under Albert Street. In fact, BWSL was the hold back for some time as the company had to work on some areas twice. But it seems two times wasn’t enough, because they were back down the hole today. We don’t know who did or didn’t do the due diligence, but someone messed up – and part of the piping system that was renewed less than a year ago ruptured – forcing “open street surgery.” Passersby were shaking their heads all along Albert Street at the sight today, but works CEO Cadet Henderson was upbeat about full restoration.

Cadet Henderson, CEO – Ministry of Works
“We gave enough advance time for the utility companies to go underground and do their repairs but as some would say, it is an act of God or some inescapable need for repair of leakage. I am not it is not considered upgrading but failure of a joint of some sort. Our people had discussions with BWSL, including the contractor that did the hot mix, so I think it will be a very quick surgery. They will do a neat mechanized cut in the area of concern and a high quality replacement of backfill and the hot mix will be patched and the patch will be hardly visible when it is completed.”

Jules Vasquez,
I know it is not cheap, once you’re talking hot mix it has to be cooked, it has to be brought from Blue Creek. Who is going to pay for this?

Cadet Henderson,
“BWSL will absorb 100% of this cost.”

According to Henderson, the area that will need restoration is one hundred square feet.
