The PUP should be preparing for the municipal elections, but instead it is now open warfare between the old and new guards. 7NEWS has obtained a copy of a January fifth letter sent to party leader John Briceno from the law firm of Musa and Balderamos, the attorneys for Said Musa and Ralph Fonseca. It warns Briceno that he could lose what the letter calls “certain assets,” because he failed to a make a payment of five hundred thousand dollars to Musa and Fonseca by December thirty first.
Sources tell us that those certain assets are no other than the party assets which are the Belize Times, Positive Vibes Radio and Independence Hall. After he assumed leadership, Briceno negotiated with Musa and Fonseca to purchase those assets from the private companies that owned them for a price of more than eight hundred thousand dollars.
And to complete the sale, the second instalment of five hundred thousand dollars was to be paid on December 31st. It wasn’t and the letter warns Briceno that Musa and Fonseca are demanding payment with ten days – which expired on the fifteenth of January. Briceno would only tell us today that the case is with the party’s attorneys.
So what will happen next, well the old guard swoop in to take back over the physical assets? No one knows for sure, but the sense we get is that Briceno is willing to have a public fight with Musa and Fonseca, believing that popular party support will rest with the new guard.
