"Thrips", they're mean, green, and hungry for beans, specifically black-eyed beans. They're just the newest pest to affect export-oriented northern crops.

That's the last thing farmers need at the moment since they depend on this particular crop for income generation.

And today Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise Jose Mai met virtually with a group of grain farmers from Shipyard, Blue Creek, Indian Creek, Little Belize, Neuland, and Spanish Lookout to discuss their black-eyed beans productions and how badly they've taken the hit to portions of their harvests.

BAHA officers have been in the field to collect samples of the pest to determine how to combat it.
