Those living on the side of highway and major streets everywhere will know the particular ear-splitting annoyance of a "Jake Brake" - that comes from 18 wheelers and other heavy trucks.
It's been going on for years, and no one seems to have the resolve to do anything about it - but today the Government announced that it will be enforcing road traffic regulations that prohibit that type of excessive noise pollution.
In a press release sent today, the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics, through the Department of Transport, reminded the public that operating your vehicle and causing excessive noise is prohibited.
The release says "No vehicle shall be used on any public road if is not equipped with a silencer to reduce the noise from its exhaust. Also, no tractor truck shall use Jake brakes within any municipal boundary."
The Department of Transport says it will be carrying out enforcement operations throughout the country, to ensure compliance.
