For weeks we reported on COP 26 - the Climate Change Conference -0 which ends in disappointment for Small Island Developing states.
But what does the failure to realize the targets set for COP really mean n the ground?
Well, for one, expect a reef wipe out - due to coral bleaching, and more, stronger hurricanes. That's what's expected if the global climate exceeds 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre industrial levels, a temperature we're headed straight toward due to the failures of COP26.
That was the opening topic on last night's UNCUT when Executive director of the 5 C's Colin Young told us what's in store for the Caribbean if global emissions can't be urgently reigned in.But it wasn't all doom and gloom at COP some of its success include:
A commitment by financial institutions to tackle climate change even if they don't know where the finance will come from, a deal on article 6 of the Paris Agreement to govern international carbon markets against double-counting emission reductions, pledges against deforestation, and ultimately a strengthening of accountability among governments and the private sector.
The hope is that those successes can be built upon in November of 2022 at COP27 in Egypt.
