Did an importer of exotic flowering plants get special executive clearance to bring in her shipment of potentially invasive species?
That's a story we've been looking into here at 7 News. There are reliable reports that Diani Chan of "Botanical Gardens by Roselyn" has brought in three shipments of plants - which are being brought into question for possibly containing endangered or CITES restricted species. This is significant because the protocol concerning such species is such that, should an importer attempt to bring them in without a permit, they are to be confiscated and burned by forestry officers.
But, reliable reports suggest that didn't happen because senior government officials made power calls to get the flowering plants cleared.
7News attempted through multiple calls and text messages to get comment from Chan, but at News time she had yet to respond.
We will keep following the story.
