And switching gears, San Pedro's shoreline is being smothered by sargassum. It's a problem that the island - and the rest of the Caribbean - have faced for years and this year is a bad one. And right now, the beaches of La Isla Bonita aren't looking so pretty. And that's not even to mention the nauseating smell.

And it's a record breaking amount of sargassum throughout the region that drifting onto our shores. Today, we spoke with Marine Biologist, Miguel Alamilla, about what is causing this problem.

But the sargassum isn't only unsightly and putrid, it can affect the marine wildlife as well. Here's how Alamilla explained it:

In previous years, San Pedro had a sargassum task force but that has since disbanded.
