For the past few months, we've been telling you about the rollout of a climate change readiness project from the Green Climate Fund, the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation.
It's called, Enhancing adaptation planning and increasing climate resilience in Belize's coastal zone and fisheries sector."
This project aims to reduce the climate change vulnerability in the livelihoods of Belizeans living in coastal communities. In addition, they want to prepare a comprehensive assessment and action plan for climate-related data available for the coastal zone and fisheries sector based on the government's highest climate mitigation and adaptation targets. But the problem the authorities are encountering is that there are gaps in vital information which would inform their decision-making process. So, for the last two days, they've been holding consultations with stakeholders to discuss Climate Data Gap and Information Assessment.
This morning, we stopped by one of those consultation sessions at the Biltmore. Here's what the lead consultant had to say about the plan to create a centralized climate change database for better analysis:
