It's been almost 2 years since the Belize City Council promised that electric buses would be hitting city streets.

In May 2022, they said it would come in July. In January 2023, they said June. In August, they said December. And now, finally, In January 2024, the first bus arrived at the Western Border. It's one of five that are expected to arrive into the country, through the Electric and Mobility Pilot Project.

Today, the Mayor and the Minister of Transport spoke about the new buses.

The collaboration for the project is between CitCo, the EU, the UNDP, the Ministry of Public Utilities, and the Department of Transport. The aim of the electric buses is to take tangible steps towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
