The sugar industry commission of inquiry - government committed to form it within 30 days of January 8th, when ASR/BSI and the BSCFA signed their two year commercial agreement.
The time is drawing nearer - and last week the Minister of Agriculture said that both sides have nominated two persons to the commission and the terms of reference were about to be finalized:
Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture
"Yes, they have submitted the names of two persons that they want to be members of commission Inquiry. Yesterday we sat down, again my team, and we just finalized the term of reference. We have not removed anything from the terms of reference, BSI had some addendums that they wanted to do, which we saw that it would strengthen terms of reference, and so we have included those, but nothing has been removed except we have added."
"So the term of reference is now stronger and is more holistic, and I believe that it will serve all parties involved well."

"Can we expect that, you know, the actual implementation and the commission to start their work by the deadline that was set in the agreement with the BSCFA?"
Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture
"I believe so. By today, by mid-day today, the final draft is supposed to be ready, and my team is working on conducting review from Mauritius and those others that BSI has proposed, and we are getting into the country as quick as possible."
As you heard, the BSCFA's nominees are from Mauritius while ASR/BSI has recommended advisory experts from Brazil.
