The Belize City Council launched its 2nd Annual CEMO Flood Mitigation Clean-Up Campaign yesterday as part of ongoing efforts to prepare the city for the hurricane season. Teams were deployed across several areas, including Vernon Street, Faber's Road, Coral Grove, and the St. Mary's School area, where they cleared drains, removed debris, and improved water flow in flood-prone communities. We spoke with CEMO Liaison Officer, Melanie Dawson who explained the initiative:

Melanie Dawson, CEEMO Liaison Officer - Belize City Council
"It is very much important because we know Belize City is prone to flooding. I mean we are at sea level or maybe even below sea level so what we do as one of our mitigation efforts we try to ensure that our drains in the city are properly clean and cleared especially the main outlets within the city. We have to ensure that the water flows freely before the rainy season comes upon us. Today we have our staff out, we have 100 plus of our staff out along with heavy equipment to ensure that we get the job done thoroughly before the season begins."
