And while CEMO is getting ready for the Hurricane season, a national emergency is already affecting Belize City's coastline in the form of sargassum. Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller says that they have already began preliminary discussions on how to mitigate it:
Eluide Miller, Deputy Mayor of Belize City

"Yeah, we have had very preliminary discussions with team members from the Belize tourism board on this. And I think pretty soon we'll be putting together a little task force to address Belize city specifically. I think you would have noticed that in the Ramada area, there is constantly a little buildup of sargassum in that immediate area. And to me, that seems to be an area that will require us to come in and address in the future. It's not necessarily so bad at this time. But as you know, this remains an issue that will only get worse and worse over time. It's not going away. And so we have had very preliminary discussions with the Belize tourism board on putting together a task force. And we will, of course, do our part and remain supportive of any effort being made to clear sargassum."
