Last night we told you about 8 year old Shantay Garnett who was run over by an ambulance as she attempted to cross Mahogany Street in Belize city to purchase a pencil. Yesterday she was described as critical as both the front and rear wheel of the ambulance ran over her abdomen breaking her ribs and causing injuries to her head as well. Still, the news for her tonight is encouraging. While the hospital's CEO Alvaro Rosado would not allow our cameras into her ward we visited her and she is recovering. She is awake and talking to family members who surrounded her bed this evening. On Monday we'll hopefully have more luck with the hospital and keep you abreast of her recovery.
