Last night there was a flash of good fortune, but for 11-year-old Jevon Mahler and 4-year-old Leeton Galvez it seems good news comes in ounces while bad news comes in pounds.
First, the update on Leeton is not encouraging. The results of the jevon's MRI present a grim diagnosis. The KHMH's neurologist, Dr. Giovanni Lara today explained that the head trauma Leeton received caused severe injuries to the child's brain. The impact caused one side of the brain to detach from the other, separating the left and right hemispheres. So, even as the swelling and bleeding in the brain have stopped, the brain remains severed which has sent Leeton into a deep sleep and he won't wake from it as long as the two sides of the brain remain disconnected.
Dr. Lara says his condition will continue like this and in time, the brain may heal itself and only then will he regain consciousness.
