They're freely advertised on radio and television but customized license plates from Print Belize are illegal or so says the director of the Belize City Traffic Department Michael Godoy. Godoy was busy in meetings all day and could not speak with 7NEWS but he did call in on KREM's W-U-B this morning which featured a broad range of comments on our story last night.
As we'd reported, traffic officers, screwdrivers in hand, are taking off customized license plates in center street. Godoy explained that the drastic step is being taken after the notice was advertised for two weeks in the Belize Times - a choice made, we presume, because the Dead Sea scrolls had no available advertising space.
Godoy conceded that permission to carry customized plates had been freely granted by the previous director of the department, but things have changed and no one is authorized to carry any plate other than. The standard format authorized by the City Traffic and Transport Departments.
Godoy emphazised that the plates offered by Print Belize are illegal. Today, we asked Manager of Print Belize Lawrence Nicholas to defend his much advertised product, but he was unavailable for comment.
