Kidney patient Alashika Sterling is tonight one step closer to undergoing a life saving kidney transplant.
She is the University of Belize student we introduced you to on Thursday who is desperately in need of a kidney transplant. As we told you on Friday, Derek Aikman arranged with Light of the World Ministries for Alashika to be flown out to the United States for surgery. The only obstacle was that the 22-year-old University of Belize nursing student needed a visa.
Tonight we are happy to report that she got her visa to enter the U.S. 7NEWS understands that while the Embassy had originally requested that the ailing Alashika appear at the Embassy in person, that hardline was eventually relaxed and by evening Aikman got the call that the visa had been approved. So tomorrow afternoon Alashika, her brother, who is donating a kidney, and her mother along with Aikman as their chaperone will fly out now to Nashville Tennessee.
Alashika will be taken to the Hendersonville Medical Center to begin preparations for the surgery. Aikman notes that time is not on their side as Alashika's condition continues to deteriorate.
