Today doctors and nurses at the Karl Heusner Hospital learned how to resuscitate newborns who are in distress. The workshop was facilitated by doctors from St. Elizabeth Hospital in United States. This is the third annual training and Dr. John Morrison from St. Elizabeth Hospital says the right and wrong resuscitation technique can mean the difference between life and death.

Dr. John Morrison,
"Doctors and nurses have babies born here and babies that come from outlying hospitals such as the regional hospitals, in Belmopan, Dangriga, or Orange Walk, who are in trouble, they may not be breathing on their own. We're helping the doctors and nurses to learn how to give the best care to their newborns.

They will be able to assess a baby who may not be breathing at birth, assess a baby who is not crying, and give them immediate medical attention with the equipment that they have. If a baby is born and it is not breathing, they will breathe for the baby until the baby recovers."

Similar workshops will be held across the country.
