Domestic violence and sexual assault - those are two complex problems that can't be fixed with just another talk shop. But the Belize-Michigan Partners hope to make some kind of a difference when they host a seminar on those two perplexing issues next week. As the name implies, it's a joint venture spearheaded by Belize's Haven House and the La Casa Group from Michigan. Dorla Rosado from Haven House told us that they're creating an alliance of hope.

Dorla Rosado, Haven House
"The ladies that are here with us are from Livingston in Michigan from La Casa. La Casa is a large and very successful domestic violence organization and they are here to share with us what it is they're doing in Livingston, how they've been so successful and also of course to get from us what we're doing."

La Casa,
"I think that the biggest thing why we were asked to come here is that La Casa is a program that's 25 years old in Michigan and we've gone through all of the different growing pains that organizations like Haven House are currently going through and we found that the very best way that we can help support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault is to work together with the community model and that's what we are hoping to do as we meet with all of these members of the community from various agencies; police, medical professionals, other agency directors - that we can really sit down and share how that's worked for us."

The women from La Case are in preparatory orientation sessions for the seminar which starts next week.
