A family is planning to take court action against the Western Regional Hospital after the death of their loved one. 23-year-old Edwin Requena was driving his vehicle in Unitedville, Cayo District, when he reportedly swerved to avoid another vehicle, and drove off the road, hitting a tree.
He was transported to WRH around 3 in the afternoon, but was discharged a few hours later. According to his brother, Ruben Garcia, the doctor who attended to him insisted that he was in good condition, and that his injuries were only minor. This was a major oversight, since by 8:00 that night, Requena was pronounced dead. Via phone, Garcia told us more about his brother's last few hours alive.

"He didn't look too good to me. So, he said it was okay to take him home. He only had a couple of bruises and nothing was wrong with him. So then I proceeded and brought him home, but he couldn't walk because he said he cannot move his legs and he says that he feel like his legs are broken. That's what he kept telling me and the doctor says no it's only bruise. As we got home all he said was that he wanted to go to sleep, so I came home and put him in a hammock and his first

words that came out is that he wants to die, he is going to die tonight. That's all he said to me and he grab my shirt and he wouldn't let me go and then from there he closes his eyes and I thought that he probably went to sleep. I keep looking at his heart beeping and his heart was pumping and like 10 minutes after his heart just stop pumping."
Garcia is asking for any assistance from the public in moving forward with a court case, as he said that his mother has passed away already and his father is not in the country.
