And, while DYS has been placed on quarantine, the Tax Service Department says it's fully operational.

Last night we told you that there were protests in the form of sickouts and walkouts at the Belize Tax Services Department due to a COVID scare. The Tax Department is denying these claims and says that, contrary to what we reported, there have been no COVID deaths at their Orange Walk Branch. The employee, Mario Gonzalez, did pass away - but not from COVID complications.

The Tax Department also clarified that two staff members tested positive at their Belmopan Branch. The staff was sent home and the office was sanitized. The Corozal office was also sanitized after suspected cases surfaced. Three staff members at the Belize City headquarters have also tested positive, all from different sections of the building. Two of those staff members tested positive while in self-isolation and one at work.

All staff members who work in the same section of the third patient were sent home and the office sanitized. The staff returned to work today.
