The voters may have soundly rejected the UDP on November the 11th - but former Attorney General and Minister of National Security Mike Peyrefitte told the new government - he still wanted his pay up until November 16th.
As Peyrefitte explains. that's because of this clause in the constitution which says, quote, "During the period between the dissolution of the National Assembly and the appointment of a Prime Minister after a general election, the government of Belize shall continue to be administered by the Prime Minister and the other Ministers and Ministers of State of the Government."
So, Briceno was sworn in on the 12th in Belmopan - but Peyrefitte is tying his date to when the Cabinet was sworn in, four days later on the 16th.
He says has has agreed to accept pay calculated up to the 11th November - but says the new government was trying to not pay him at all for the entire month of November. Peyrefitte says he wants his pay in full and makes no apologies for it.
