Last night we told you about Francisco Cante, the man whose body was sent to the morgue only to be mixed up with another and handed to the police for burial as a John Doe.
It was an incident that caused his family - which had already prepared a burial in their village of San Felipe - an enormous amount of confusion and pain.
Tonight, we can report that the Ministry of Health, after consultation, determined that there was a procedural error in the steps for the handling and release of the body from the morgue. They've now made recommendations for a re-sensitization of staff in the morgue to ensure that a repeat of this incident does not occur.
Canche's body has since been exhumed from its Trial farm burial and given a proper funeral at the site that his family had prepared.
The Ministry has also encouraged the family to file a claim for any financial compensation that this incident may have caused them because of this error on the Ministry's part. In a statement, they say they deeply regret the incident and that quote: "The Ministry is committed to following up with the family and assures the public that all that is necessary will be done to avoid a repeat of such an incident."
